Where things stand

Driftfields is not yet on the App Store. It is distributed for testing through Apple's TestFlight, and this policy describes that build.

Test builds record how the app is used, so that decisions about it rest on evidence rather than on what anyone remembered to mention. That is described in full below. You are told about it the first time you open the app, you can decline, you can switch it off later, and all of it is deleted when testing ends.

Whatever a released version does will be described on this page, and in the privacy details shown on its App Store product page, before it is released. Those App Store details are the authoritative statement for any released version.

TestFlight test builds

Test builds carry an event log, so we can tell how the app is actually used. The first time you open one, you are told this and can decline. If you decline, nothing is recorded and nothing is sent.

What is recorded

Which world you are in and how long you stay, split by whether you were touching the screen, watching it, or listening with the screen off
How often each control is moved, and how far its value travelled
When a session starts and ends, and how long it lasted
Which controls you have used for the first time
The audio output in use, such as speaker or headphones, and when it changes
Your device model, iOS version, app build, and the device's thermal state
Performance and crash reports provided by Apple's MetricKit

What is never recorded

Anything you create: no seeds, no recipes, no saved work
Any audio, from the app or from a microphone. The app does not use the microphone
Anything you type
Your location. The app does not request or use it
Your contacts, your photos, or any other app's data
Any advertising identifier. There is no advertising here, and no tracking across apps or websites

Identifiers

A random identifier for the installation, created on your device. It is not linked to you, to your Apple Account, or to any other app. It changes if you delete and reinstall the app, and you can reset it.
An opaque account reference that Apple's iCloud attaches to anything uploaded. We did not choose it and cannot remove it. It does not tell us your name or your email address.

Where it goes, and who can read it

Records are stored in our own CloudKit container on Apple's servers, using your device's existing iCloud connection. They are not readable by other testers. They are readable by us. Apple processes them as our infrastructure provider, under Apple's own privacy policy.

How long it is kept

Test data is deleted when the test programme ends. It is not used for advertising, not sold, not shared with anyone else, and not used to build a profile of you.

Your control

Decline when you first open the app, and nothing is recorded
Turn it off at any time in Settings, What we log. Turning it off also erases what is waiting on your device
See exactly what is queued on your device, on that same screen
Delete the app, and the local record goes with it

Children

Driftfields is not directed at children. It is not in Apple's Kids Category, it contains nothing aimed at children, and it never asks your age, so we have no way to know how old you are and do not knowingly collect information from children.

Installing a test build requires an Apple Account, and Apple sets a minimum age for those, which varies by country.

If you believe a child has used a test build and you would like their records removed, email contact@tideswellgroup.com and we will delete them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes affecting test builds are told to testers directly.
